Five Year Strategic Plan
2025 – 2029
Introduction: The Strategic Plan reflects the commitment of the Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals (WSADCP) and Washington State Association of Drug Courts (WADC) Boards to champion proven strategies within the judicial system that empower people to change their lives.
Vision: All eligible persons in Washington State have access to a high-quality therapeutic court.
Mission: To promote and provide leadership for therapeutic courts throughout Washington State.
Goal 1: Promote best practices for all therapeutic courts in Washington.
Goal 2: Promote and provide services and resources to therapeutic courts and participants / alumni in Washington.
Goal 3: Effectively advocate for therapeutic courts across the state.
Strategies by Goal
Goal 1: Promote best practices for all therapeutic courts in Washington.
Strategies:
- Provide training and support for the use of best practices.
- Encourage the use of evidence-based and best practices in all therapeutic courts.
- Incorporate therapeutic court alumni and participant perspectives into information on effective practices.
- Foster statewide partnerships and facilitate connections amongst therapeutic court professionals, alumni, and community organizations.
- Participate in information sharing and mentoring efforts to support therapeutic courts and court professionals.
- Support collection and analysis of therapeutic court participant and program data.
Goal 2: Promote and provide services and resources to therapeutic courts and participants / alumni in Washington.
Strategies:
- Continue to provide high quality training for therapeutic court professionals across the state.
- Provide opportunities for therapeutic courts to communicate with each other and provide input to the association regarding challenges and opportunities within their jurisdictions.
- Maintain a website to provide information resources for therapeutic court professionals.
- Support collaboration with therapeutic court alumni, state partners, and community-based organizations to address barriers and provide effective services to therapeutic court participants.
- Recruit and retain diverse, knowledgeable, and involved Board members to provide input and operational support to guide the association.
Goal 3: Effectively advocate for therapeutic courts across the state.
Strategies:
- Continue to represent the interests of therapeutic court professionals on the CJTA Panel and with the Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) and Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
- Conduct legislative advocacy to maintain and expand resources, funding, and capacity for therapeutic courts, treatment, and recovery support services throughout the state.
- Support standardized data collection and analysis to measure the effectiveness of therapeutic courts, especially for high-risk/high-need individuals.
- Create and disseminate thoughtful messaging about the value of therapeutic courts for participants, their children and families, and Washington state communities.
- Organize a legislative advocacy day for therapeutic court alumni/participants and professionals.
- Create a WADC legislative or public policy committee.
